Busy day today. After leaving my children to school I headed to work armed with a loaded class plan and high hopes for a productive morning. After a hectic morning I met Darren and the kids and we headed to Sligo to have Hannah’s brace fitted. Hopefully it will put an end to schoolyard comments about her teeth! It’s a little painful at the moment but as the saying goes; no pain, no gain! We […]

Life, Love, Family

Today I caught myself enjoying many moments. You may argue that most of these moments are mundane and run of the mill, however, since deciding to take part in this challenge I have noticed that for me the most enjoyable moments are those that are steeped in the ordinariness of everyday life. This morning I savoured the aromas of the herbs and spices that simmered away on the cooker while I whipped up a batch […]

This  magnificent little  fellow disrupted Bornacoola traffic this morning. As I approached the school bus stop, this colourful chap stepped out on the road and calmly made his way to the other side. Glancing nonchalantly over his shoulder before he disappeared up a neighbouring driveway. This is the kind of everyday occurrence that makes living in the country such a joy. Since moving from the big smoke to small town Leitrim I have experienced […]

Life, Love, Family

I spent the morning in one of the most relaxing places I know. I walked in the door with a thick head of unruly hair and walked out with sleek, smooth, shiny locks all thanks to my very talented hairdresser.  I had my hair cut quite short during the summer of 2012. I had just finished a Post Grad Diploma and wanted a change. You know how it is. The last time I had felt […]

Life, Love, Family

Day 8 of the #100happydays challenge. I’m realising as the days go by that there are many many happy moments in my days. Usually I’d just be plodding along doing my thing and not really noticing. The things that make me happy and bring a smile to my face probably seem ordinary and mundane yet they are the things that make up the fabric of my life. Take this morning Chez Shiels. Our cute but […]

Life, Love, Family

Day 7 of the #100happydays challenge and having my daughter back in the house after a weekend of sleepovers makes me very, very happy! Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend. I’m off to settle myself on the sofa with my knitting needles to put the finishing touches to the first piece of a gift for a very special friend. Working on it is making me happy. I’m also going to get comfy to watch […]

Life, Love, Family

Yesterday evening I had the rare pleasure of having the house to myself. I pulled the blinds, locked the door and pulled up a chair in front of the blazing fire. With sole charge of the remote control I set back, put my feet up and started to check what was on the tellybox. Looking through the listings I saw that ‘Stepmom’ starring Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon was on. My finger hovered on the […]

Life, Love, Family

So, today is day 5 of my #100happydays challenge. Lots of things made me happy today. The fact that it’s midterm and I didn’t get rudely awakened by the alarm clock. No lunches to make!! That always makes me smile. Breakfast was a leisurely affair. So you see, before I even left the house I had plenty of little moments of happiness and was feeling very calm and relaxed. First stop was the hairdressers. We […]

Life, Love, Family

So it’s day four and today’s photo is: My sister and niece paid us a very welcome visit today. If I was asked ‘are they here yet’ once I was asked it a thousand times!  I love having people over. Especially family, so as soon as I dropped Darren to work I got started on straightening the house and making something tasty for our much anticipated guests to eat. Nevin McGuire’s chocolate cookies are a  favorite […]
