#100happydays / Friendship

One doesn’t know, till one is a bit at odds with the world, how much one’s friends who believe in one rather generously, mean to one.  ~D.H. Lawrence I had an unexpected day off work today. You would imagine this would make me very happy. However, I was kinda out of sorts heading off to drop the kids to school. After the school drop off, Darren and I headed off to do the weekly shop and […]

Our birthdays are feathers in the broad wing of time.  ~Jean Paul Richter I think I may have mentioned in passing that today is my birthday….my 40th birthday. What other reason is needed to be happy today? I really love birthdays, especially my own :). My day started with the kids waking me armed with cards and presents  and telling me breakfast was ready. I followed them to the kitchen finding a bike with a […]

Life, Love, Family

I think I mentioned before that I undertook to post a picture on Facebook everyday for a hundred days for the #100happydays challenge. I thought it might be interesting to blog the reason why the image I post makes me happy. While I manage to post the picture to Facebook each day it’s not as easy to make the  time to write the explanation. I know there are a few readers who are following the […]

It’s Saturday, the start of the weekend reason enough to be happy! I do my weekly grocery shop on a Friday afternoon on my way home from work so that I don’t have to pound the aisles with the kids at the weekend. It was one thing policing what they threw into the trolley when they were toddlers but now they strategically place things were I won’t notice until they’ve been scanned. Or they work […]

So day 33 started with a struggle to get out of bed. Coffee for breakfast and not much else. A battle to get the kids to use the bathroom quickly so that I could jump in the shower. Yes, you guessed correctly we have only one bathroom….poor us! How can we survive and be clean I hear you gasp. Well, my Dad survived in a family of 14 with no inside loo or bathroom and […]

Day 31 warts and all!!! – every morning Darren cleans out the wood burner and lights it so the house is warm and cosy for the day. He leaves the fuel buckets full so I don’t have to lug in turf or coal. Can you feel me smile? I wouldn’t usually post this pic cos one of my tile fell off recently because of the heat generated by the stove! But feck it! It’s not#100perfectdays . […]

This morning  passed in a bit of a blur. I just couldn’t drag myself out of the bed. Not a great start. If I’m late up so are the kids and my routine is messed up!! For a change the kids were standing waiting at the door as I was still drying my hair and tossing what I needed into my handbag. We did make it to the school on time and I did […]

Man is fond of counting his troubles, but he does not count his joys.  If he counted them up as he ought to, he would see that every lot has enough happiness provided for it.  ~Fyodor Dostoevsky This morning a little package of happiness arrived with the postman. A very dear friend of mine has had a book of her poetry published. I ordered a copy online when it came out and I love it. […]

Hope you all had a fantastic St Patrick’s weekend.  Busy here chez Shiels although I did post the #100happydays photo to facebook, so still going strong! Day 28 This packet has been hanging about the kitchen all weekend. Each time I catch a glimpse of it I smile and feel happiness envelope me! I remember going out with a good friend and her cousin one night many, many years ago. Myself and her cousin seemed […]

#100happydays / Life, Love, Family

I spent a lovely morning in town with H and her pal. We rambled about from shop to shop finishing of with a look around Pennys. Before leaving town we went for hot chocolate and rested our legs. We arrived home to a full house, Darren’s mum and dad had called, his cousin Jack was with them. Jake was over the moon at being able to spend time with Jack. I’m surprised Jack was allowed […]
