Day 71 Monday April 28th Instead of in the door and out with the homework we’re taking advantage of the lovely warmth of this April day. We ditched the bags inside the door, grabbed some ice cream and sat outside enjoying the beautiful warmth in the garden. Kids swinging on a tree, dog exploring, me checking out the green house, what more could you ask for? Day 71, 29 days to go. Many things grow in […]

Day 70 Sunday April 27th It’s been a long day. I’m looking forward to climbing into bed and sleeping soundly. Hold your loved ones tight and tell them you love them. In these times of austerity everyone has their own worries to carry. With wages and work hours being cut and part time jobs becoming more difficult to find you could be consumed by anxiety 24/7 and that’s before you start to worry about your […]

Day 69 Saturday April 26th Great day had by all in the Shiels house. Busy morning in the kitchen, lovely visit from Angie, Nana and Niamh. Cup of tea with Nana Alice and Granddad Jimmy who called this evening. We even  got to sample the Dundee cake which wasn’t half bad if I say so myself. Sitting with our feet up in front of a blazing fire now…..happy out!

Day 68 Friday April 25th Saturdays here are taking on a comforting form. Up with the lark, well up with  the dog, and out for a walk. Coffee machine gets switched on along with the oven on my return. A pot of soup is made and soda bread popped in the oven. House is tidied and boy heads of to football training. I sit and read in the car while he trains……..ok sometimes I knit. […]

Day 67 April 25th There is a crab apple tree outside our kitchen window and at this time of year pretty pink blossoms bloom on it. I love the sense of growth that abounds at this time of year. We first viewed this house in May of 1997. It was a pretty white cottage at the time, referred to locally  as the white house. The crab apple was in bloom and near by stood a […]

Day 66 April 23rd I received a sewing machine as a gift some months ago.  Only problem is I have never, ever used a sewing machine before! It sat on the floor of my kitchen for some weeks. I did take it from the box once or twice and marvel at it’s loveliness but as I didn’t own a spool of tread I couldn’t even begin to use it. It eventually moved from the kitchen […]

Day 65 April 22nd At last!!! I’m going to say it’s a year since this glasshouse took up residence in my garden, it could be longer. It sat in the garden on pallets for a short time………obviously acclimatizing to the environment. It was erected in a matter of hours and the glass panels where washed down, one or two had to be replaced after the dog ran through them chasing the cat. Everyone was instructed […]

Day 64 April 21st  – The Wanderer Returns My beautiful 12 year old. She has spent most of the school holidays away from home. A sleepover with her friend kicked the holidays off and then she went to Cavan with her cousin. They were joined by another cousin and I’m sure the fun was mighty! We missed our little lady so much. She, however, was having too much of a good time to be all […]

Day 63 April 20th After a great day with Darren’s family I am sitting down with a cuppa and some Easter egg…..Creme eggs always remind me of my first valentines day with Darren….after a little uncertainty I decided a Creme egg would be the ideal gift! He loved it, well he would……’s his favorite chocolate treat.  Love doesn’t sit there like a stone, it has to be made, like bread; remade all of the time, […]

Day 62 April 19th I love listening to music while I’m pottering about the house or driving in the car. I always find music lifts my spirit and puts a spring in my step. This is one of my favorite songs at the moment. It’s probably considered soppy to say but the lyrics remind me of Darren and listening to them always makes me smile. Like all couples we have our ups and downs and […]
